The Visibility Project is a series of paintings that center Black female breast cancer survivors whose chests have been radically transformed by surgical treatment. With 1 in 8 U.S. women facing a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime—and Black women experiencing the highest mortality rates according to the American Cancer Society—our stories are too often erased from visual representation. This project challenges that invisibility, ensuring that we are seen, honored, and depicted in the art world.
