The Visibility Project

In 2023, my life was profoundly disrupted by a breast cancer diagnosis. Since then, I’ve been documenting the emotional, physical, and financial aftermath of this experience through sketches and paintings. Out of this journey emerged a new body of work: The Visibility Project.

This project centers Black female breast cancer survivors whose bodies have been radically transformed by surgical treatment. With 1 in 8 women in the U.S. facing a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime—and Black women experiencing the highest mortality rates, according to the American Cancer Society—our stories are too often overlooked or erased in visual culture. The Visibility Project confronts that invisibility, ensuring we are seen, honored, and represented in art.
